‘When Sir Bob Geldof’s marriage to my old friend Paula Yate’s was blessed at the couple’s home - a spectacular 12th century former priory in Faversham, Kent - George, who had recently disbanded Wham, joined the small select group of celebrity guests who posed for a normal photograph with the bride and groom. Paula wore a blood red dress designed by Jasper Conran and Bob displayed his KBE, the honorary knighthood awarded to him by Queen Elizabeth in 1986. Midge Ure and David Bowie were seated and George took a position behind Bob, with the boys from Duran Duran and Spandau Ballet. One of the assembled stars remarked jokingly that it was a great pity they were losing Paula to Bob and that they should all demonstrate their sadness by shedding a tear for the benefit of the camera. That done, they then immediately burst out laughing, giving me three frames that I cherish to this day. Needless to say, the party that followed had no need of karaoke. Many of the star guests took to the makeshift stage throughout the evening and George, who had ditched his morning suit by that time, performed with guests including Chrissie Hyde from the Pretenders, Lulu, Simon lee Bon, John Taylor and of course Bob.’ Brian Aris

Brian Aris began his photographic career as a photojournalist, working for a London agency. A series of frontline assignments took him around the world covering various humanitarian crises from Northern Ireland and Lebanon to Palestine, Africa and Vietnam. He then decided on a complete change of direction and opened a studio in London where he started photographing fashion and glamour models for newspapers and magazines. Next he turned away from the model world to concentrate on the music industry that was exploding in Britain and gradually broadened his studio work to include pop and rock stars.

Brian Aris has covered every aspect of the music scene from punk rock, glam’ rock and straight rock ‘n’ roll to the emergence of the boy bands and then the girl power. His photography has been on show at The National Portrait Gallery in London, the prestigious Recontres D’Arles exhibition in France, and at the Royal Circle of Art in Barcelona. His archive represents one of the largest individual collections in the United Kingdom.
