Gabrielle Motola is a photographer, writer, and educator based in London with a background in psychology, photography, and motion pictures. Her work explores the interplay between the self and the world, challenging how much of each we are willing to engage with. In An Equal Difference (2016), she examined gender dynamics in Iceland following the 2008 financial crisis, blending portraiture, landscape, and documentary photography to offer an intimate perspective, encouraging reflection on identity and the environments that shape it. Integrating solo motorcycle travel into her creative process, Motola has embarked on extensive journeys, including a return trip from Stonehenge to Iceland’s Arctic Henge. She has explored Scotland’s Highlands, Orkneys, and Hebrides, capturing the landscapes, histories, and human experiences woven into them. Her photography reveals the worlds within the self and the echoes of history in nature, inviting deeper engagement with both.
