In early 1965 Gered Mankowitz, still relatively early in his photography career, had a chance encounter with Marianne Faithfull whom spoke highly of him to her manager, Andrew Loog Oldham. Oldham quickly booked Mankowitz to shoot with another band he managed, The Rolling Stones; this was the start of a lifelong friendship between the photographer and band and a major turning point in his career.

Mankowitz was soon asked to accompany the band during their 6 week (36 city) tour of the US, during which he captured them both on and off stage. These iconic photos were later collated into The Stones 65-67, which includes both published and never-before-seen images of the legendary rock band. Some would say The Rolling Stones are the greatest rock and roll band in the world, active for almost six decades, they are one of the most popular and enduring bands of the rock era.
