IN MEMORY OF LEW ALLEN

Lew Allen at Proud Galleries

It is with a heavy heart that we share with you the sad news that beloved American early Rock & Roll photographer Lew Allen has passed away.

Proud Galleries is honoured to not only have staged his last solo photography exhibition past summer -and the first and only one in London- of Elvis Presley and Buddy Holly and his complete 'rock party bus tour' collection. We had the pleasure of having him present with us over Zoom during our preview opening and speaking with all of our gallery friends, who had a magnificent time asking him questions about his life, work and the joyous time when he photographed the King himself. Lew Allen was a great friend who enriched others’ lives in so many ways, and he was loved by the many he touched and will be greatly missed.

For a limited time only, Proud Galleries and the photographer's Estate have locked the pricing of Lew Allen’s hand signed, vintage and modern fine art photography. Shot in Cleveland and New York from 1956 to ‘58, Allen’s work features Elvis Presley and a stellar assemblage of early Rock ’n’ Roll icons such as The Everly Brothers, Bobby Darin, Frankie Avalon, Paul Anka and Buddy Holly and the Crickets. His remarkable photography takes you back to a time before these rock pioneers rose to legendary status. His photography was shown in the National Portrait Gallery and acquired by the U.S.’s Smithsonian Institution, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Buddy Holly Center among other museum collections.
